Smiling Mind is a not-for-profit organisation backed by research, experience and passion. They started in 2012 in a response to the rising rates of mental illness in young people.

Smiling Mind is an evidence based, whole-school social and emotional learning program (SEL). SEL is recognised as being an effective approach towards building children's ability to succeed and thrive. In the classroom it helps build critical life skills to boost overall mental health and wellbeing.

At Yarragon Primary School we implement a whole school mindfullness program in every classroom immeadiately after the lunch time play break. Each classroom has 10 minutes of mindfulness in the classroom, utilising tools from the Smiling Mind catalogue.

The benefits of Smiling Mind are:

  • Increased mental wellbeing

  • Greater concentration & focus

  • Improved academic performance

  • Clear strategies for emotional regulation

  • Better relationships

  • Improved resilience.

ZONES OF REGULATION

At Yarragon Primary School we implement Zones of Regulation across all of our learning spaces, as well as within our restorative practices for indoor and outdoor behaviours.

It explores and develops awareness of feelings while exploring tools and strategies for self-regulation, co-regulation, self-care and wellness.

"The simple, common language and visual structure of The Zones of Regulation helps make the complex skill of regulation more concrete for learners and those who support them." (Zones of Regulation, 2023)
